Participants
at a conference in Abuja on skill enterprise development who made the
suggestion, also advised the youths to strive to always look inwards
instead of whole sale dependence on government.
Ikenna
Adin, Ejike Oji Community Dev. Foundation, said, "Youths can help
themselves by trying to earn some skills or finding out what natural
endowment God has given you and work towards to develop them."
Aisha
Audu-Emeje, A3 Foundation, said, "Entrepreneurship, which is do it
yourself or do something yourself and earn something. That is one of the
reasons why we are here today. I believe that there are a lot of such
call, that’s why we are saying that people should get skillful."
Ogidi
Bara, D.G. House To House campaign, said, "As youth you must come up
with good ideas, good innovations, so that at least you might come up
with something before you seek for the government."
Organizers
of the event observed that skill acquisition is crucial to national
development because it helps in eliminating joblessness, poverty and
crime in the society.
Samuel
Eze, ED, Youth Awareness and Talent Development Initiative, said,
“Considering those businesses that have technical and vocational
backgrounds like fashion designing, motor mechanic, carpentry and wood
works and the rest of them. What we do basically is to discover, empower
and retain people who have succeeded in these areas, who will now
partner to provide the skills, the internship and also the professional
apprentice opportunities for the teaming unemployed youths in Nigeria."
